I provide hour long assessment and consultation on matters of

Feeding and eating problems

  • Breastfeeding difficulty

  • Poor weight gain

  • Fussy and difficult bottle feeding

  • Introducing solids

  • Transition from puree to finger food

  • Food aversion and toddler refusal

Other

  • Crying and settling

  • Separation & clingy behavior

  • Nasogastric tube weaning

It can be hard to understand why your baby stops feeding. Many things may be the trigger- illness, discomfort from the feed, (vomiting, pain, allergy) choking, as well as your anxiety this behaviour may create.

But whatever started it, it is important to stop any force feeding, persistent feeding, (over 45 minutes) or constantly offering the feed.

Parenting Matters is experienced in assisting with the transition back to 'normal' feeding

Toddlers' Eating

The first thing you come to learn about your toddler is that YOU NEVER WIN A BATTLE WITH A TODDLER .

Toddlers' main developmental goal is their strive for independece, so food battles become the best arena to demonstrate their power and control.

While this phase is something parents usually survive, other factors can mean that the food intake and fussiness gets extreme and food range becomes limited.

This is when Parenting Matters can assist.

Crying Babies

Crying is their communication, but often this may seem to become excessive, and you may find yourselves on a treadmill, of all day trying to settle the baby, and can no longer tell when the baby is tired, hungry or upset.

It can be very demoralisong to feel unable to comfort and settle your young baby.

Some babies who are unsettled in the early months do not learn to cope without mum very close, if not actually in your arms, and sometime not happy even  then.

Parenting Matters is experienced in helping to understand the struggle the baby is having and how to help move on to more enjoyable times.

Tube weaning

Through my work at the Royal Children's Hospital I have seen many babies being fed by nasogastric tubes for various reasons.

Sometimes once the need for the tube is past we may find the baby has become dependent on the tube, and is uninterested in oral or self feeding .

In consultation with your paediatrician I am happy to help in a weaning plan  to oral drinking and self feeding
